The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) continues to grow slowly but steadily. Nearly every month, there are new and exciting events to look forward to. Yuga Labs, the company behind BAYC, has begun the process of developing their massive metaverse project. This new project is called the Otherside.
The project labeled "The Otherside" was first unveiled in March 2022. The actual contents of the project were hazy at best as a result of subsequent speculation and a flood of unconfirmed material in circulation. Given the scope of the project, this isn't surprising. While some may have mistaken Otherside for a continuation of the BAYC NFTs, it is in no way comparable to other collections such as the Bored Ape Kennel Club. Yuga Labs says, "Otherdeed is the key to claiming land in Otherside."
What is Otherside?
The final product of the Otherside project will be a Massive Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) that will be integrated into the BAYC ecosystem. According to the team, the game will combine mechanics from MMORPGs and Web3-enabled virtual worlds. To be specific, players will be able to own land around the world, more than 10,000 people will be able to play at the same time, and NFTs can be transformed into playable characters.
A metaverse within Otherside will allow users to move freely between other metaverses, allowing them to have a seamless experience. NFT collections like World of Women, Cool Cats, CrypToadz, and more are included in the project. In this way, the metaverse can be compared to an open-world game in which players can own land and interact with various ecosystems and the unique creatures that live there.
When it comes to figuring out how Otherside works, one of the best places to look is Otherdeeds. Otherdeeds are a collection of dynamic NFTs that include all of the game's elements. Each Otherdeed comes with its own set of resources, and some of them—though very few—have a Koda.
Each plot of land in Otherside contains up to four replenishing resources. Users will be able to harvest and utilize these resources within the game. Some are more rare than others. They include shard (stone), anima (for research), ore (metal), and root (wood). Each land is also built on five different types of sediment. Each is given a specific tier. They are Infinite Expanse (tier 1), Cosmic Dream (tier 2), Rainbow Atmos (tier 3), Chemical Goo (tier 4), and Biogenic Swamp (tier 5).
On April 30, 2022, Otherdeeds were offered for sale to the general public as a collection of 55,000 individual land parcels. However, the total number of Otherdeeds is only 100,000, with the remaining 45,000 being reserved for Yuga Labs employees, partners, and Bored Ape NFT holders.
A piece of land isn't static in Yuga Labs' game Otherdeeds; rather, it changes and evolves based on what players do in the game. It is claimed that these digital plots will only reveal their full potential over time, which adds to the mystery surrounding them.
What's the deal with Kodas?
Despite the fact that players aren't supposed to know precisely what Kodas are or why they're here, the lore surrounding them is intentionally vague. According to the company, people should take caution when they come into contact with a Koda.
In addition to the initial Otherside land sale, which revealed the existence of Kodas, Yuga Labs unveiled an interactive map depicting what the upcoming MMORPG might look like. Players can get a feel for the game's open-world by navigating this map.
In light of Yuga Lab's astronomical success, the Otherside project may be most intriguing because of what's yet to come. One thing is clear: Yuga still values the Bored Ape and NFT communities.
